Role Summary:
The Lead Architect is responsible for directing the identification
of the target architecture for technical solutions, including
software, hardware, and communications to support cross-functional,
security, and interoperability requirements. This role involves
ensuring the alignment of projects and solutions to the target
architecture throughout the defined lifecycles. The Lead Architect
will support solution planning, delivery, and program operations,
maintaining currency with technology developments and providing
expertise across several domains, including cloud and on-premises
architecture, biometric systems, networking infrastructure, and
more.
Responsibilities:
Architectural Leadership: Direct the identification and development
of the target architecture for technical solutions.
Lifecycle Management: Ensure alignment and integration with the DHS
Systems Engineering Lifecycle (SELC) or equivalent lifecycle
processes and agile methodologies.
Solution Architecture: Provide expertise to ongoing and planned
development work, ensuring compliance with architectural standards,
practices, and guidelines.
Governance Support: Participate in architecture governance through
various review boards and other appropriate governance bodies.
Technology Integration: Ensure the integration of commercial
software products and custom code in programming languages such as
GO, C++, JAVA, and PL/SQL.
Documentation and Reporting: Develop and maintain detailed
architectural documentation and reports, including risk management
and compliance reports.
Stakeholder Engagement: Interface with internal and external
stakeholders to guide and confirm alignment to the modernized
architecture.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience: Over 10 years of relevant experience in cloud and
on-premises architecture for large-scale IT and database systems,
including multi-tier architecture.
Certification: Relevant architectural certifications or equivalent
professional qualifications.
Knowledge and Expertise: In-depth knowledge of SELC or equivalent
lifecycle processes, agile methodologies, and current technology
trends and standards.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in integrating complex commercial
software products and custom code in multiple programming
languages.
Clearance: DHS Suitability, if required.
Preferred:
Agile and DevOps Methodologies: Experience with agile, DevOps, and
DevSecOps practices.
Technical Proficiency: Strong background in cloud and on-premises
architecture, biometric systems, networking infrastructure, and
database systems/design.
Security Management: Knowledge of federal and department security
requirements, including certifications like CISSP and CCSP.
EA Tools and Methodologies: Expertise in EA frameworks, EA
repository tools, and Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA)
guidance and reference models.
Advanced Degrees: A bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant
field.
Leadership Roles: Proven track record in leadership roles within
large-scale IT projects.
Strategic Development: Experience in developing and implementing
technology strategic plans, continuity of operations plans (COOP),
and disaster recovery plans.
Project Management Tools: Proficiency with tools like ServiceNow
(SNOW), JIRA, and other project management and tracking
systems.
Cross-Functional Teams: Ability to manage and lead cross-functional
teams, ensuring effective collaboration and integration of
activities across various domains.
Location:
This opportunity is remote with the expectation to attend meetings
in the Metropolitan Washington, DC areas as required, but no less
frequently than monthly.
