Police Officer-Security Protective ServiceCIA Police Officers
protect Agency personnel, facilities, and information through the
enforcement of Federal laws and Agency Regulations, including
making arrests and enforcing traffic laws.Minimum Requirements
- U.S. citizens (dual U.S. citizens also eligible)
- At least 18 years of age
- Willing to move to the Washington, DC area
- Able to complete security and medical evaluations
- Twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment
- No record of felony convictions or domestic violence
- Prior military, police or security experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university in Criminal Justice or a related field will be accepted
in lieu of extensive experienceAs a Police Officer in the Security
Protective Service (SPS) for CIA, you will protect CIA personnel,
facilities, and information through the enforcement of Federal laws
and Agency Regulations. You will control access to and egress from
Agency facilities utilizing preventive measures or actions that
mitigate hostile threats against Agency workforce, property, or
information. Police Officers exercise full law enforcement
authority, including making arrests and enforcing traffic laws in
Agency jurisdiction. You are also the primary first responder to
all emergencies on Agency facilities. In medical emergencies, you
will provide basic first aid, trauma response, CPR, and AED
response. Police Officers maintain public order during emergency
situations, facilitating safe and thorough evacuations when
necessary. In addition to these protective functions, as a Police
Officer you will effectively represent the Agency and communicate
with members of the public.SPS provides a full range of
high-quality security and police services through a variety of
fixed posts, patrol operations, and specialty units. Specialty unit
assignments are filled through competitive vacancy processes and
include K-9, bomb squad, hazmat, emergency planning, security
operations, and court liaison.Newly hired Security Protective
Service Cadets must complete an intensive twelve (12) week,
Uniformed Police Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement
Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia, or qualify for a FLETC
waiver. To qualify for a FLETC waiver, you must have graduated from
FLETC and usually performed full-time. Following graduation from
FLETC, you will complete an additional ten (10) weeks of
specialized instruction at SPS training facilities. You will then
transition to Officer-in-Training (OIT) status where you will be
individually assigned to an SPS Field Training Officer for
operational training and final evaluations before appointment as
Police Officers.SPS training includes coursework in police
procedures, psychology, police-community relations, criminal law,
first aid, laws of arrest, search and seizure, and physical defense
techniques. You will continue to develop your skills by attending
annual in-service training, stressing defensive tactics, legal
issues, HAZMAT, CPR training, and firearms proficiency. Review our
required Grooming Standards before MyLINK submission.Police
Officers routinely work eight-hour shifts to include weekends and
holidays and may occasionally be directed to work overtime.A 5-year
Contract Term Agreement is required in this position. Upon Entrance
on Duty (EOD), a 36 month commitment with SPS is required before
