Project/Unit Description The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Lab has opportunities for a system engineering position in support of DoD test/training range research and development effort. Responsibilities of this position include capturing technology developments, workforce needs, and enterprise processes necessary to support the cyber testing and training enterprise in the next 2, 5, and 10 years. By facilitating collaboration among technical, engineering, and enterprise teams, this effort can ensure critical capabilities are in place when needed and support cyber test and training enterprise infrastructure, utilization, and event metrics to align enterprise strategy to guide investment. Job Purpose The Systems Engineer oversees and coordinates the work of technical teams on systems projects, ensuring the successful design, implementation, operation, and technical management of those projects. Taking a holistic approach to systems engineering, the Systems Engineer ensures that all aspects of a system project are considered and addressed. The Systems Engineer works closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and then develops and documents technical requirements that meet those needs. The Systems Engineer leads the design team in developing a system architecture that meets all of the requirements. After the system is designed, the Systems Engineer oversees the implementation of the system, working with the implementation team to ensure that it meets all of the requirements. Once the system is deployed, the Systems Engineer manages the technical aspects of the system, including monitoring performance, troubleshooting problems, and making improvements. Key Responsibilities * Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for large scale product or system deployments. * Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation). * Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of high complexity to include defining and refining internal and external interfaces. * Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes. * Validate security control configurations on systems and ensure all systems are configured with proper controls, such as STIGS, CMMC, and other similar requirements. * Collaborate with sponsors and other key stakeholders to derive tasks from detailed requirements and provide tasking to other team members based off of the derived tasks. Additional Responsibilities * System engineering responsibilities within this role include thorough understanding of the national cyber range infrastructure, technology demands, sponsor requirements, and future needs. * Candidates for this position will work closely with DoD cyber range sponsors and system end-users to understand their operational needs, and to help identify future system requirements. * Candidates must demonstrate expertise in cyber test and training range virtualization, systems architecture, and networking concepts. Required Minimum Qualifications * Engineering or physical sciences bachelor's or higher degree. Preferred Qualifications * Active TS/SCI Clearance. * Recent detailed knowledge of the National Cyber Range Complex. Travel Requirements * 10% - 25% travel. Education and Length of Experience This position vacancy is an open-rank announcement. The final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty Extension Professional ranks as outlined in section 3.2.1 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook * 9-14 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in All areas of Engineering and Physical Sciences. * 7-12 years of related experience with a Masters' degree in All areas of Engineering and Physical Sciences. * 4-9 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in All areas of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
