Alumni Engagement is a large, complex division within the Office of Advancement and is composed of 80+ professional staff organized across four critically important teams: Alumni Relations, Annual Giving, Class Programs & Reunion Campaigns, and the Discovery Initiative. These teams are designed to meaningfully engage alumni with Georgetown through volunteerism, giving, events, professional development, and other digital and in-person interactions.The Director, Alumni Engagement Strategic Initiatives, serves the Alumni Engagement team in two critical ways: (1) driving priority alumni engagement and fundraising work of the Alumni Engagement team with a focus on project management and tackling complex, operationally-focused challenges within Alumni Engagement and its partners; (2) serving the Associate Vice President and the Alumni Engagement senior leadership team as a thought partner and facilitator in areas of operational opportunity, change management, and organizational strategy and growth. This position plays a critical role in ensuring Georgetown continues to expand and deepen its engagement with over 215,000 alumni, primarily through volunteer programs, events, outreach, and fundraising. The Director conceives of, plans, and implements short- and long-term projects that help Georgetown achieve its alumni engagement goals. They develop and communicate clear timelines, objectives, and metrics for each project, often convening groups of cross-functional colleagues, including senior leadership, and they monitor, track, and communicate progress. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for several ongoing, cross-team projects, including:

  • Facilitate and oversee annual and long-term planning, including establishing and communicating clear timelines, expectations, and resources.
  • Monitor, assess, and communicate progress on Alumni Engagement's annual and long-term goals. Oversee Alumni Engagement's budget, including facilitating strategic and thoughtful planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Lead the Alumni Engagement Metrics project, which includes oversight of a cross-functional working group and partnering with Advancement colleagues to develop guidelines, dashboards, reports, and other tools.
  • Identify opportunities and lead efforts to foster greater cohesion, coordination, and collaboration across Alumni Engagement's teams, to include team meetings and retreats.
  • Establish relationships, methods, programs, and plans that build greater alignment and foster communication among internal staff and key partners to advance Alumni Engagement's priorities.
  • Maintain a strong grasp of alumni engagement work and a data-driven mindset with the ability to enhance our work through Georgetown's customer relationship management system, GU360 (a Salesforce system).Work InteractionsThe Director reports to the Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement and is a critical member of the Alumni Engagement team. The Director manages the Special Assistant to the Associate Vice President, Alumni Engagement, who provides administrative support to the AVP and other Alumni Engagement leadership, and ensures the AVP's time is appropriately deployed and optimized. The Director will work closely with senior staff and colleagues from across OA and the University, and will regularly represent the Associate Vice President and other leaders in key discussions, projects, and working groups. Some nights and weekends will be required, with advance notice.Requirements and Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent background and experience
    • 5-7 years relevant experience, including alumni engagement or similar work, strategic planning, and/or program development and assessment; experience working with senior management and/or in a complex, higher education and/or non-profit organization preferred
    • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple complex tasks simultaneously and in an organized manner, and work effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
    • Excellent verbal and written communication with the ability to distill complex ideas into simple concepts and explanations
    • Ability to review, present, and, ideally, analyze complex data and handle confidential matters on a regular basis
    • Flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments
    • Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate and thrive in a complex, matrix organization
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills, a professional and collegial demeanor, and ability to exercise diplomacy
    • Must be able to conduct research, assimilate data, and communicate findings effectively
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft applications (particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Google Suite
    • Responsibilities associated with this position may occasionally necessitate willingness to work evenings and/or weekends as neededWork Mode DesignationThis position has been designated as Hybrid.
