Description Summary:The Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement
will play a critical role in enhancing and expanding volunteer
efforts at George Washington University. This individual will work
to strategically identify and cultivate volunteer opportunities for
the GW community, particularly for individuals with a high capacity
for leadership and impact. The Associate Director will also assist
in organizing an annual Volunteer Leadership Summit, formalize a
comprehensive volunteer recognition program, and manage key
administrative tasks, including data entry and tracking volunteer
engagement metrics. This role requires someone with exceptional
organizational skills, a passion for volunteerism, and the ability
to engage a diverse group of stakeholders.Key Responsibilities:
- Targeted Volunteer Identification: Collaborate with internal
and external partners to identify and place high-capacity
individuals in meaningful volunteer opportunities. Utilize data and
relationship-building skills to match volunteer interests and
strengths with strategic university needs. Provide onboarding to
new volunteers including job descriptions; ensure integration
across campus for alignment with University priorities.
- Systems Development and Upkeep: Create and maintain the
volunteer website/portal to ensure available volunteer
opportunities are always up to date; create and oversee volunteer
management portal; maintain existing platforms for volunteer
engagement.
- Volunteer Leadership Summit Coordination: Plan and execute an
annual Volunteer Leadership Summit to bring together key university
volunteers. Coordinate logistics, programming, and speaker
selection to foster networking, leadership development, and deeper
volunteer engagement.
- Recognition Program Development: Create and implement a formal
volunteer recognition program that celebrates the contributions of
volunteers across the university. Design strategies to honor
volunteers through events, awards, and communications, ensuring
their efforts are highlighted and appreciated.
- Data Management and Entry: Maintain accurate volunteer records
in the university's database and work with campus partners to do
the same. Ensure proper data entry for volunteer activity and
outcomes to inform strategy and reporting. Provide regular reports
to leadership on volunteer engagement metrics. Partner with
university departments, alumni relations, and community
organizations to create and promote volunteer opportunities. Serve
as a liaison to ensure a cohesive volunteer engagement
strategy.
- Program Evaluation and Reporting: Assist in the assessment of
the effectiveness of volunteer programs, identifying areas for
improvement. Provide insights and recommendations to enhance
engagement and retention of volunteers.Performs other related
duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not
preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically
related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:Qualified candidates
will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of
specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or
a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree
must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree
requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of
education, training, and experience.Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in volunteer management, alumni
relations, or a related field preferred.
- Passion for higher education and community building through
volunteerism.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Established flexibility and initiative.
- The ability to work independently, as well as thrive in a team
environment to achieve institutional goals.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Experience with project management and interoffice
collaboration is desired.
- Ability to organize and complete numerous tasks simultaneously
with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet
deadlines.
- Proficiency in data entry and experience with CRM systems
desired.
- Familiarity with digital engagement platforms and data
